UFW President Arturo Rodriguez speaks on Cesar Chavez's Birthday // SF City Hall

The board of supervisors voted unanimously today on a resolution supporting Gerawan farm workers, their right to be represented by the United Farm Workers and urging Gerawan Farming to implement the terms of their contract.

Gerawan, which sells its produce under the Prima label, is avoiding millions of dollars it owes thousands of workers in pay increases and other benefits by refusing to honor the contract.

About Gerawan farm workers:

On Cesar Chavez' March 31st birthday, Gerawan workers want to honor his legacy by fighting to be part of the union he founded.

More than 100 farm workers went to San Francisco from Fresno County to testify at a hearing where the Board of Supervisors will vote on a resolution calling on Gerawan Farming to respect the law and to implement the workers' contract.

This campaign is part of the workers’ big national push to begin to bring their struggle to the cities across the United States.

About UFW president:

As president of the United Farm Workers of America, Arturo S. Rodriguez is continuing to build the union Cesar Chavez founded into a powerful voice for farm workers by increasing its membership and pushing historic legislation on immigration reform and worker rights.

Rodriguez led negotiations with the nation's major grower associations to fashion the agricultural provisions of the bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill that passed the U.S. Senate in 2013. He and the UFW worked closely with the White House, meeting with President Obama, over the President's executive order on immigration issued in November 2014. Learn more here!
